Posted on September 1, 2012

The Mental Health Section of ASHA is sponsoring two very exciting free webinars that will focus on stigma related to seeking mental health care.

The first webinar, “It’s Not Your Father’s Shrink: New Developments in Children’s Mental Health Service Delivery” will be held on September 12, 2012 from 1:30 – 3:30pm Eastern. The presenters from East Tennessee State University, Sheri Chandler, Stacey Williams, and Jodi Polaha, have extensive expertise in the area of mental health service delivery and environmental barriers to help-seeking. They will share their research findings and discuss why parents are reluctant to seek mental health care for their children. The presentation will also address the implications of mental health services being offered in new settings and how physicians, parents, schools, and mental health service providers can work together to develop strategies for improving service provision and ultimately improve child health outcomes. Register now for this dynamic webinar!

The second webinar will be held on November 8, 2012 from 2:00-3:30 pm Eastern. The presenter, Kate Elkington, from Columbia University, will discuss her research on adolescent’s experiences with stigma, particularly as it relates to their experiences with HIV. This will also be a webinar you will not want to miss!
